What does it mean to be Free From trafficking and the sex industry?

“Before, my life was very difficult. I thought that I was unworthy; incapable of doing something. I was very addicted to cigarettes and drugs. I didn’t have any saving skills and as a result, I faced serious economic and psychological problems. I was exposed to these problems due to peer pressure and my family's ill-treatment.

Becoming a part of the program at Arise Global, I have obtained several services like psychological support through counseling, training on money management, and others. I have also completed vocational education and continue to improve my skills. The trainings have brought a great change in my life. I have adapted a savings culture and now deposit my savings regularly. I am able to access credit from my savings group within Arise Global and have started my own business. Now, I am able to generate a salary, where I can save for my family and future. I now have self-confidence. I have gained family and friends through the Girl Empowerment Program and this has helped solve my feeling of loneliness. I now have a social life. I was able to forgive my family and they are now amazed at my life change and have also learned about forgiveness.

In the future, in relation to my vocational skills, I want to establish another business in textile & design and expand to starting another business in the coffee industry.”

What does it look like to empower girls to care for themselves with Washable, Reusable Sanitary Pads?

During the school year, our partner WRAPS sends small teams to rural schools across the Soddo/Wolaita area. These teams share with girls the good news that they are made with purpose and care by a father God who loves them. They educate the girls about their changing bodies, and provide washable, reusable sanitary pads and show them how to use them. This is literally LIFE CHANGING information. 90% of the girls who receive this God-honoring body education and pads are still in school 3 years later. This is a HUGE win in the war against the affects of poverty on young women in Ethiopia. In the 2021-2022 school year, over 3000 9-15 were visited by a WRAPS team, in remote areas.

What does it mean to have a hope and a future?

As an orphan on the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Fka would have to carry milk for people in the market. At night, his home constantly changed as he searched for a spot where he could find safety.

Fka had the courage and strength of character to join one of our partners and come out of street life. He was cared for, invested in and educated. Fka is gifted in critial thinking and understanding history and political science. Today, he is preparing for university, after completing upper-level school in Ethiopia, and graduating high school with honors as an exchange student in the US. The future is wide open for Fka. He will study government and political science and wants to give back to his people in Ethiopia and serve them as a leader. He was once lost and is now found. He has a great hope and a future!
